Wanting Just Got Better

Wanting has proved to be one of the most powerful features Five has to offer. For any product reviewed on Five, you can click the “Want” button and it adds that product to your Wants list. Tonight, we’re rolling out some new features based around Wants, including a way to Want anything, without it previously being reviewed on Five.

First off, when you login to Five, you’ll notice a new link in the header called “Wants”. This brings you straight to your My Wants page, which you previously had to go to your profile to find.

On your My Wants page, a new section has been added titled “Add a New Product You Want” which allows you to type in the name of any product (much like when you write a review). You can either choose a product already in the Five database from the autosuggestion list or add a new product. This section is pretty simple with the only other thing you can do is search for and attach a picture to your Want.

We love the idea of Wants and can’t wait to keep improving on it. Hope everyone enjoys our new rollout.

Thanks,
Zachary Collins (View my wants

Want in one hand…

I’ve always wanted an iPad. And I’m not the only one. It’s just common human instinct to want. Right?

Now Five is going to help you keep track of what you want, with the click of a button. Yesterday, we quietly rolled out our new “Want” buttons to all product pages, including a new section on the Search landing page highlighting products people want.

We’re really excited about Wants and can’t wait to start seeing what our users are craving to get their hands on.

First Invites Sent; A Great Day Already

About an hour ago, we sent out the first Five invites to a few select amount of people. They’ve been using the service like crazy, slowing down the servers, and reviewing some great products. Jack took the lead on our Leaderboard after he shared 34 reviews.

Each day we will be inviting 10 new people. Once we run out of invites, the phase of launching to the public will begin.

It’s already been an exciting day. Now it’s time to start building some new features.

Thanks,

A Big Sneak Peak

We here at Five are gearing up to invite the first 50 people to Five within the next couple of weeks. Yet we felt like giving a big sneak peak before we do that, with some screenshots and descriptions of features Five will offer.

Tours
We wanted to create a way to help users get started with Five right away, helping them understand how it works and what features there are. So we threw some code together and came up with Tours, something that every new user is greeted with. Each tour is filled with red speech bubbles that describe features throughout Five. It’s not a main feature, but more like our help section to kick off Five usage.

Sharing your reviews
Five is all about reviewing products. That’s why we needed something to make reviewing products simple and quick, yet powerful. When you review a product, you type in a product title (which gives you suggestions like Google does for search results), write a short review, search or upload a photo, and share it to all of your followers and post to your Twitter/Facebook if you have them connected.

Photo search powered by Google; Attach to your review
One of the main questions we’ve been asked was, “What if I don’t have a photo from my computer to upload?” So, we came up with the answer. As mentioned above for sharing your reviews, you can ‘Search or upload a photo’. When you click the search link, a section appears with photos to attach to your review, all gathered from Google Image Search.

Product pages
With Five, we expect to eventually reach hundreds if not thousands of reviews for every product out there. So having a clean page for every product was a no brainer. On product pages, you’ll see a timeline of the latest reviews and an overview of the product including overall rating, a description, and more. That ‘Edit’ button you see - just think of Wikipedia for products.

User pages
Social reviews is the name of the game here at Five. Reviews of products are all fine and dandy, but when you throw in people you actually know, it makes it 100x better. Five allows you to follow your favorite people whether that be a friend, celebrity, or whomever, and see their reviews show up in your timeline feed.

Search
No website is complete until it has search. And with Five, search is definitely one of our key elements. Our search allows you to search for products that you’re interested in maybe buying, or to search for people using Five. It’s an all-in-one search that actually is pretty smart - you just have to use it first.

Linked accounts
We get it. Your friends might not all be on Five, but more on Twitter and Facebook. So we’re going to let you link your Twitter and Facebook to Five, so you can easily share your reviews across your favorite social networks.

Mobile - Anywhere, anytime.
We aren’t stupid. We know more and more people are using their mobile devices than a big web browser. So we covered this area too. Five Mobile offers you all the great features Five does in the web browser, just in a smaller version. First we’ll be offering Five in the mobile browser, but will soon be launching an iPhone app once our API is complete.

Hopefully you enjoyed our big sneak peak. What you see now is just the beginning. I have an entire printed out roadmap on my desk which covers the next 1 - 2 years of Five. It’s going to be big.

Thanks,
Zachary Collins

Introducing Dustin Snider

Five has basically been a one man team since the beginning. Yet during the time Five has been around, I’ve been quietly looking for a Co-founder. When I mentioned it to a good friend of mine, Dustin Snider, a few days ago, he asked a day later if he could join the team and help in any way. I just said, “Join as my Co-founder and COO”.

I was confident in my decision, because I already knew we worked well together, from him being my Co-founder at Yazzem, before we sold it.

I’m extremely excited to have Dustin as my Co-founder again. This time we’re going to grow Five beyond expectations, following our roadmap we have drafted out for the next 1 - 2 years.

Thanks,
Zachary Collins

New Homepage

For the longest time, we had a pretty basic homepage that looked nothing like what Five will really look like. Today, the new homepage has launched giving you a big sneak peak of what Five will look like.

Next up: Finishing the mobile version, then sending out beta invites.
